Thank you for your kind message. There have not been too many volunteers in the project lately and I suppose they would welcome you if you contacted them. I don´t know when I will go Granada myself.
Dear Pauline, your name sounds familiar to me. I am in Finland now, but I´ll go to Granada in November. Volunteers are most welcome to teach English, especially to the beginners. Our only volunteer, Alberto from Michigan, teaches the more advanced girls. If you want to contact the director or visit Pronat, you will find the necessary information at apimunic.org. Thank you, Pauline, for contacting me.
Volunteers working with children, as kindergarten assistants, or tutoring early grades, need to have intermediate Spanish, and we hope for at least 8 weeks. Beginners can be okay if they stay longer, fluent speakers are often a great help even for a shorter time. Always looking for people to be general handyment in the schools,, and a month is okay for them. English teachers we prefer three months, likewise people to work with children with problems. (for the latter they need at least advanced Spanish and some experience). Office and promotion we like three months. Small groups who want to come for a few days to do such things as painting a school, building latrines etc. are welcome too. You can always refer people to our website too, thanks Kathy.
It would be great if you can explain what your volunteer requirements are. We are not using a lot of foreign volunteers and I would love to send some your way when I et applicants not fitting our requirements. Can you post the short term groups type thing you mentioned to Jason as well as the longer term requirments?
I'll be arriving in Managua on Wednesday evening. I have a couple meetings there and then I'll be heading down to Granada on Friday evening or Saturday morning.
We are a free of charge volunteer organization, focussing on education and child/community healh. We give a lot of support to both the school children and the schools that lack resources on the outskirts of Granada, Nicaragua.
