NGO's of Nicaragua

Working Together to Improve the Quality of Life of Nicaraguans

Our NGO has been working in Nicaragua since 2004. We are officially registered as an NGO in Nicaragua and have therefore filed thru MIGOB and must submit our financials each year to them in August. The first year we did this we hired a Nica accountant and it cost 200.00 USD - to set the whole thing up and file. The second year, it was 600. This year, he wants 900 USD and we are not in a position to pay this type of money, and frankly I find it exhorbitant.

The filing is due in August and I was wondering what other NGOs do? Does anyone have an accountant that is reasonable? The filing is not complicated, nothing like our 990 in the USA, yet our 990 costs a fraction of the cost.

Any help/advice would be great!

Hi Tabatha,
You may have already got the information you need, I have just seen this post. I think $900 is too much; they are trying to take advantage of you. I have a very good Nicaraguan accountant. He started out doing ours 7 years ago for $100. Last year it was $400. We have a lot of different things going on. He is very through, good and fast. He picks our books, records and receipts up and comes back for us to sign the paperwork and brings it back after he has filed. That is when we pay him. He is a very nice man with a wife and two young children. If you are interested in him, I could ask him if it is ok for me to give you his phone numbers.
